At Kissimmee Family Wellness Center, I am dedicated to evidence-based chiropractic care
to enhance patient outcomes. A 2019 case series from Harvard Medical School’s Osher Center
(Bernstein et al., 2019) highlights the benefits of integrating chiropractic and neurological
care for migraine patients, offering insights for our collaborative care in Kissimmee.
Study Overview: Published in Global Advances in Health and Medicine, this study evaluates three migraine patients treated at a tertiary care hospital. Each received standard neurological care and chiropractic interventions, including spinal manipulation, myofascial release, and exercises, for migraines with neck pain or musculoskeletal complaints.
Key Findings:
Patient Outcomes: All three patients reported reduced headache frequency (e.g., from
daily to 1/month in one case), lower pain intensity (e.g., 3.5/10 average), fewer medications, and less anxiety/dysthymia.
Chiropractic Role: Techniques like spinal manipulation and soft tissue therapy targeted
neck pain and trigger points, complementing Botox or medications.
Integrated Model: Direct neurologist-chiropractor collaboration (e.g., meetings, shared
notes) improved outcomes for patients seeking nonpharmacological options or facing treatment plateaus.
Safety: No adverse events were reported, even with cervical manipulation, after informed
patient discussions.
Clinical Implications: Over 75% of migraine patients experience neck pain, which chiropractic care can address through pain modulation (Vigotsky & Bruhns, 2015). This study supports referrals for patients with musculoskeletal complaints, nonresponsive cases, or those preferring non-drug approaches.
